About Me
I started yoga over 17 years ago to help with the stress of a demanding job and soon became hooked! A Human Biologist by training I am particularly fascinated by the effects that yoga practices can have on our physical and mental wellbeing. I teach hatha yoga combining asana (poses) with breath work (pranayama) and guided meditation (iRest® Yoga Nidra). I frequently incorporate yogic philosophy into my classes, relating the ancient teachings to modern day challenges. As well as general classes I have a passion for working with individuals in recovery from illness or injury - people who are not well served by a vigorous gym workout! We work together in a positive and safe way, exploring practices that help maintain physical integrity, support immunity, and calm the nervous system.
Primarily I aim for my classes to be friendly, open and accessible to all - quite simply I want you to leave the room feeling better than you did when you came in.
I am a qualified 200 hour yoga teacher with Claire Murphy Yoga, and registered with the professional body Yoga Alliance UK. I am also an iRest® Yoga Nidra teacher. I have a BSc Honors degree in Applied and Human Biology and 20 years experience in medical research. The science of yoga is ever evolving and I strive to incorporate the latest research into my teachings.
I love to learn and continue to expand my knowledge attending regular workshops and over 350 hours of advanced teacher trainings. These have included iRest® Yoga Nidra Level One with James Reeves; Restorative Yoga with Deborah Berryman; Yoga Science for Back Pain with Dawn Morse; Yoga for Emotional Balance with Bo Forbes; 100 hour Anusara Immersion with Claire Murphy; 50 hour Immersion with Donna Farhi; Yoga for Anxiety and Depression with Lisa Kaley-Isley; Yoga for Stress, Burnout and Chronic Fatigue with Charlotte Watts and Leah Barnett; Teaching One to One with Kate Ellis; The Art of Yoga Sequencing with Jason Crandell, Anatomy & Physiology Applied to Yoga with Dr Andrew McGonigle, and Advanced Yoga Philosophy with Amy Ippolloti. I am currently training to become an Embodied Yoga Principles (EYP) facilitator with Mark Walsh.
